About Edmonton Caring Clowns

Edmonton Caring Clowns

History

Edmonton Caring Clowns began as volunteers with "Friends of the University". In 1998 we received our charter as the Edmonton Caring Clowns Society. We now provide services to care facilities in the greater Edmonton region.

Tribute

Edmonton Caring Clowns owes its existence to the dedication and commitment of founding members, George McEwan and Bud Salloum, who started the first "Patch Adams" Caring Clown Alley in Canada. Bud was "Papa Clown" to many of the 1994 - 1998 Edmonton Caring Clowns graduates. Our sincere thanks also goes to Edmonton Caring Clowns first Vice-President Bill Mathewson, who was instrumental in obtaining financial grants in the initial years.

The Caring Clowns would like to recognize the University of Alberta Hospitals' Pastoral Care Services.

What We Do

Caring Clowns are adaptable gentle clowns proficient in the art of clowning and caring. Edmonton Caring Clowns provide a caring heart, good listening skills and have a plethora of regular clowning abilities including; balloon sculpting, juggling, magic, puppetry, singing, music, drawing and origami, and other clown activities.

Edmonton Caring Clowns perform at private and corporate functions with all proceeds going to the Edmonton Caring Clown Society. The Society provides support to communities outside of the greater Edmonton region who wish to develop a Caring Clown program.

Training

The Caring Clowns provide training to be a Caring Clown, and opportunities to learn about, and practice, the art of clowning.

Affiliations

ECCS is a registered clown Alley with World Clown Association.  The Society is also a registered charitable organization and encourages both individual and corporate support, and provides receipts for all donations.
